A couple of weeks ago a “facebook friend” asked that everyone list something you’re thankful for as your update for each day, between then and Thanksgiving.
Then, she went on to mention that it wouldn’t take long for you to run out of things to be thankful for.
I like the idea of sharing things we are thankful for but can’t imagine ever running out of items.
See, Thanksgiving is and has always been my favorite holiday and this year has been among the best. I can’t look at anything in my life and not be thankful for it….even the stuff that isn’t all that I want it to be. That stuff is in the category of “thankful for future projects.”
Here is a small sampling of some of the things that I am thankful for:

·         A God who “has my back”
·         Two amazing daughters
·         My wonderful friend who was crazy enough to partner with me on this site
·         Freedom that we only have in the United States of America
·         Ron Hornaday Jr…that my friends is the definition of “racer”
·         The dreams of kids who want to race
·         Guys like Mark Martin who compete with guys like Joey Logano
·         Watching cars maneuver road courses in California and New York
·         The example of excellence we watched this year from the Hendrick 48 bunch
·         Guys like Bob Jenkins, Tommy Baldwin, Kevin Buckler and others saw the 2009 downturn as an opportunity to form Sprint Cup Series teams
·         The fact that Darlington is still on the schedule and doing fantastic with the Southern 500
·         That NASCAR is in the hands of the people who run it instead of the people I talk to on radio shows…and myself for that matter, we’re doing just fine
·         Pete Cordes, Chuck Akulis, Carl Nagel, Dave Kneisel and the many guys who raced the dirt track in the 60’s, 70’s and ‘80’s and got me hooked on this sport
·         Mike Bliss and his perserverence in 2009
·         Big John Youk his cookbook and his key lime pie recipe
·         Kyle Busch and his second-place is the first loser mentality…might make an interview go bad along the way, but makes the racing really, really good
·         Martinsville Speedway, I’m still lobbying for a third race there each year
·         World-class racers like Juan Pablo Montoya can compete in NASCAR
·         Marcos Ambrose’s enthusiasm and talents
·         MRN Radio
·         Modified – NASCAR paved track mods and the beloved dirt modifieds
·         Daytona in February and returning home from Homestead in November
·         Great short track announcers
·         Martinsville Speedway hot dogs
·         Dale Earnhardt Jr….can’t imagine what his life is like and look forward to the days we talk about race wins and championship runs
·         Great places like Crazy Jim’s Blimpy Burger in Michigan, Babe’s Chicken Dinner House in Texas and the many other places to get a good meal
·         Motor Racing Outreach
·         Bristol and Talladega and Richmond and Las Vegas and New Hampshire and Pocono and everywhere else they strap in and drive
·         Television coverage that I don’t get to watch but brings NASCAR to millions of fans
·         Chocolate Myers
·         The Ruetimann’s – David and his father Buzzie
·         Crew chiefs who take the time to explain things to idiot radio guys like me
·         Speedweeks where hotel parking lots have guys working on race cars
·         My back porch and a glass of wine

You get the point and I could go on-and-on.
What are you thankful for? Make your list, I think you will enjoy the process.
