Because today we're talking about someone else's dream, an early Christmas wish come true for NASCAR. On December 8, all the speculation that's been going on for months, even years, finally reached its conclusion when Danica Patrick, the face of the IndyCar Series, formally announced a two-year NASCAR Nationwide Series deal with JR Motorsports.

OK, it’s the end of the year, and you know what that means: lists.
Some of them are forward-looking. There are lists of what we plan to gain -- and in the case of those of us with hips, to lose -- in 2010. There are lists of which credit card bills we can get away with making the minimum payments on, and lists of numbers to block from our cell phones.
But this is also traditionally a time to look back on another nearly completed year, and specifically in this case, to look back on the year in NASCAR.

Juan Pablo Montoya is already talking when he walks through the door of Alsace 1, AKA the teleprompter room, at the Wynn Hotel in Las Vegas on Wednesday morning of Champion’s Week.
“I don’t want to read this stuff,” he says as he strides to the front of the room. “Can’t I just talk?”

See, Thanksgiving is and has always been my favorite holiday and this year has been among the best. I can’t look at anything in my life and not be thankful for it….even the stuff that isn’t all that I want it to be. That stuff is in the category of “thankful for future projects.”
Here is a small sampling of some of the things that I am thankful for:

Looking further in NASCAR land, one story that is amazing is that of Mike Bliss.

But, what Bliss has done this year has to be considered one of the best stories of the season.

That’s the sound of the “fat lady” warming up and getting ready to sing. No, she hasn’t sung about the 2009 Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup but she’s about to cut loose.
In the glorious 61 year history of NASCAR nobody has ever done what we are getting close to seeing. History is on the horizon.

Last Year, Carl Edwards kept his Chase hopes alive with a career-best
third-place finish at Martinsville. (John Harrleson/Getty for NASCAR)
This weekend the NASCAR Sprint Cup tour hits the little town of Martinsville, Va. for the TUMS Fast Relief 500; just as the series has been doing for 61 years.
On September 25, 1949 Red Byron drove Raymond Parks ’49 Oldsmobile to the $1,500 payday in the first strictly stock (forefunner to the Sprint Cup Series) race at Martinsville Speedway, a half-mile dirt track at the time.

There’s an old Chinese proverb which says, “May you live in interesting times.”
OK, that’s not entirely truthful. It isn’t a proverb; it’s a curse.
“Interesting times,” you see, aren’t always good times. It just depends on which side of the fence you find yourself standing.

In a highly-anticipated announcement that has been generating a lot of discussion -- and even better, hours upon hours of spirited debate -- the members of the new NASCAR Hall of Fame’s inaugural class have been announced.
The announcement took place in the ballroom of the Charlotte Convention Center on October 14, an ideal location for such an event.
